"CHAS. BARTON. - Funeral services for Chas. Barton, of Altoona, who died august 1, were held from the Altoona Methodist church the following Sunday afternoon, by Rev. Lucius L. Smith, of Emerson, a former pastor, assisted by the pastor, Rev. W. H. Doyle. Ritualistic services by King David Lodge, A. F. & A. M., were conducted at the Altoona cemetery, where the body was buried. Mr. Barton had been in poor health this spring, but had been fighting off the trouble until Monday preceding his death when he was compelled to take his bed. He was taken to the Lutheran hospital, that evening and operated on immediately, but the trouble had gained so much headway that he was unable to overcome it and passed away on Thursday. He had been a resident of Altoona and community for the past twenty-six years, having been engaged in the livestock business most of this time. Before moving to Altoona Mr. Barton and family were residents of this city for a number of years. Charles H., son of Robert and Malissa Barton, was born in Winnebago county, Ill., March 3, 1862, and died August 1, 1929, in the Iowa Lutheran hospital, Des Moines, at the age of 67 years, four months and 28 days. His family came to Des Moines during the Civil THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, August 15, 1929, page 1, column war, making their home since in and around the city. He was united in marriage with Miss Agnes Scarrow at Colo, Iowa, December 31, 1885, and to this union four children were born, Frank, of Altoona; Mrs. Alta Henry, Altoona; Mabel Hannaford, who passed away June 1920, and Robert of Des Moines. He was a member of King David Lodge, No. 407, A. F. & A. M., of Altoona. He was a home man and no place interest him as it did."
