BARTLETT, LUCINDA STEWART (MRS. LUCIAN)

THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, December 4, 1902, page 10, column _. "OBITUARY. - Mrs. Lucian Bartlett who for a number of years was a resident of Maxwell died at her home in Nevada, Wednesday evening November 26th. Lucinda Stewart was born in Wawaka, Noble county, Indiana, July 1, 1845 and spent her girlhood in that place. She was married to Lucian Bartlett, October 1, 1865, and in 1866 they removed to Peoria City, Iowa, in this home seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Bartlett tow of whom died in infancy and one daughter, Miss Etta preceded her mother to the spirit world, but one month ago, while Mrs. Mary John, and three sons, Ansel L. Charles and Frank together with the husband and father, survive her. In 1892 the Bartlett family came to Maxwell where they resided until last summer when the condition of Mrs. Bartlett and Etta became such that it was thought a change of climate would be necessary, consequently they went to Colorado Springs, but in a few weeks both grew decidedly worse and it was thought best to return to Iowa, and since that time they have made their home in Nevada so they might be near their daughter, Mrs. Edgar John. On October 26th, just one month before the death of Mrs. Bartlett, Miss Etta was laid to rest in the Maxwell cemetery, and since that time Mrs. Bartlett has been growing gradually weaker and for several days before she passed away her death was momentarily expected. The remains were brought to Maxwell on Friday and the funeral was held at the C. P. church and was in charge of Rev. Clay Bobbitt, after which all that was mortal, was interred in the Maxwell cemetery. A large concourse of friends gathered at the church and from there proceeded to the cemetery to pay their last respects to a friend whom to know was to love. Early in life Mrs. Bartlett united with the Free Will Baptist church and when she removed to Peoria Iowa she united with the M. P. church and lived a consistent christain to the end. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the community."

THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, December 4, 1902, page 1, column _. "Peoria City. - The community here in general do heartily sympathize with the Bartlett family in this their sad hour of bereavement; it seems to be double share as they drink the bitter cup to its very dregs, but death enters and there is no defense. It is true death loves a shining mark. In those deaths we all say our friends are gone, not yours only. But we al have hope in their deaths. When we meet again the eyes whose vision was impaired here will see clearly and know that they are known. To us it is a painful subject to chronicle, yet words seem cold on paper. KITTY WELLS."
