Rites in Maxwell For Mrs. Leuwreatha Young

Funeral services for Mrs. Leuwreatha Young, 85, widow of the late William Young, who passed away early Tuesday evening at her home in Maxwell after an illness of several weeks, were held Friday afternoon from the Maxwell Methodist church after brief prayer services in the home.

The Rev. E. S. Blomquist, pastor, officiated, assisted by Rev. Ira Carney of the Maxwell Church of Christ.

Mrs. Alice Gooden and Mrs. Jean Mohler sang "In the Garden" and "The Nearer the Sweeter." Mrs. Gooden also sang a vocal solo, "Sunrise."

The McClanahan brothers, Warren Wilford, Tom, Roy, Earl, Reginald and Bennie nephews of the deceased, served as casket bearers. Interment was in the Peoria cemetery. Mr. Young died Feb. 3, 1943.

Floral tokens of esteem and friendship were many and most beautiful.

Obituary

Rev. Blomquist read the following obituary:

"Leuwreatha Gibson, twin daughter of David and Emily Hardinbrook Gibson, was born in Noble county, Indiana on the 17th day of August, 1864, and passed away at her home in Maxwell, Iowa, on May 30, 1950, at the age of 85 years, 9 months, and 13 days.

The same year that she was born, the family moved to Polk county, Iowa, where they lived for three years. At the end of that time they moved to Jasper county.

She was united in marriage to William Young in November, 1883. Thirteen years later, another change in residence was made when they moved to a farm near Collins. This farm was her home until 1914, when the family moved to Maxwell.

She was preceded in death by her husband, also her son, Fred, and her daughter, Blanche. Of her original family she was the sole survivor, she had 6 brothers and 4 sisters. She was also the last of the early settlers of the Farrar community. Her family were members of the Methodist Protestant church there. The timber for the first church in Farrar was furnished by her father.

After her residence had been established in Maxwell, she made the Methodist church her spiritual home.

Survivors

She lives to mourn her departure her son Joseph, her daughter Alta, both of Maxwell, her grandsons, Ardine Young of Des Moines and Major Roger Young of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and her great-grand-childre, Sonia Louise Young of Des Moines and Caroline Young of Oak Ridge, Tenn."

Relatives and friends attended the services from Seymour, Kearney, Neb., Des Moines, Colfax, State Center, Rhodes, Collins, Mitchellville, Hartford, Bondurant and Mingo.
