Rites in Cambridge For Edwin McHone

CAMBRIDGE -- Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, May 24, from the Cambridge United Brethren church for Edwin McHone, former Cambridge resident, who passed away Monday morning, May 22, at the Iowa Lutheran hospital in Des Moines following a short illness.

The services were in charge of the Rev. Mark Wetteland, pastor of the Cambridge Methodist church.

Mrs. Harold Mohler of Maxwell sang two hymns, "Beyond the Sunset" and "Sweet Hour of Prayer", accompanied by Mrs. H. L. Larson, also of Maxwell.

The flowers were in charge of Mrs. Mathilda Hill and Mrs. Clare Casebolt.

Casket bearers were his neighbors and fellow workers, Roy Rhimer, Orval Newsome, Ray Routson, Fred Schultz, Lloyd Hinnear and Walter Butters, all of West Des Moines. Interment was in the White Oak cemetery.

Obituary

James Edwin McHone, son of Frank and Agnes McHone, was born at White Oak, Iowa, on Sept. 23, 1912. He moved with his parents to Windom, Minn. in 1916. They lived in that community until 1927, when they returned to Iowa, making their home in Cambridge.

In 1938 he moved to West Des Moines, where he lived until he passed away May 22, 1950, having reached the age of 37 years, seven months and 29 days.

He was married to Fern Dougherty on May 22, 1948, and to this union one daughter, Elizabeth Jean, age two and a half months was born. He also had three step-children, Mary Lou, Betty and Richard, and one daughter, Harriet Frances, by a previous marriage. Two sons passed away in infancy.

He was a loving father, a devoted husband, a kind friend and a good neighbor.

Surviving

He is survived by his wife and children, his mother, Mrs. Agnes McHone of Cambridge, and five sisters, Mrs. Henry (Mable) French of Ortenville, Minn., Mrs. Herman (Ersula) Herbst of Storden, Minn., Mrs. Irene Herbst of South Sioux City, Neb., Mrs. Herbert (Ruth) Baker of Cambridge and Mrs. Donald (Helen) Hoyt of Maxwell.

His father, Frank McHone, and sister, Lenora, preceded him in death.
