Rites in Iowa Center For Mrs. Thos. Smith

Funeral services for Mrs. Thomas Smith, 70, former Story county resident who passed away, Monday, May 2, in a St. James, Minn., hospital, were held Thursday, May 5, from the Methodist church in St. James and Friday, May 6, from the Iowa Center church.

The Rev. Hendricks officiated at both rites. Interment was in the Iowa Center cemetery.

Pall bearers at the Iowa Center rites were nephews of Mr. Smith. Mrs. Gooden of Maxwell sang, accompanied at the piano by Ina Larson, also of Maxwell.

Obituary

Mrs. Thomas Smith was born in Story county, Iowa, Feb. 12, 1880, and passed away in the St. James, Minn., hospital, May 2, 1950, at the age of 70 years, three months and three weeks.

On May 15, 1902, she was united in marriage to Edward J. Kelly of Clinton. To this union were born three children. One son, Hugh Kelly, lives at Bozeman, Montana. Her husband and two children preceded her in death.

On Sept. 16, 1909, Mrs. Kelly was united in marriage to Thomas Smith in Story county, Iowa. They moved to St. James, Minn., where they since made their home.

Surviving

Besides her husband and one son, she leaves to mourn her passing five step-children, Ernie Smith, Mrs. Ray Hoffman and Mrs. Maurice Belcher, all of St. James, Mrs. Evelyn Belcher of Nevada and Warnie Smith of Oregon.

Also surviving are four brothers, Clyde Henry of Alexandra, Minn., Lloyd and Theodore Henry of Mankato, Minn., and William Henry of Minneapolis; five sisters, Mrs. Garry Goings of Byron, Minn., Mrs. Ethel Freitag of Fairmont, Minn., Mrs Floyd Davis of Mankato, Minn., Mrs. Eva Livinski of Garden City, Minn. and Mrs. Gladys Brown of Erdahl, Minn.; 20 grandchildren; eight grandchildren, and many other friends and relatives.

Mrs. Smith was a Christian woman, attended the Methodist church and was a member of the W.S.C.S.
