Hold Final Services For Andrew J. Shold
Salem's church in Roland was filled to capacity on Wednesday afternoon, May 3, for the funeral and last rites for the late Andrew J. Shold, who passed away Wednesday evening, April 6 at Bergen, Norway.
Prior to the services at the church of prayer service was held at the Erickson Funeral home in Roland. His pastor, the Rev. Ofaf Holen, was in charge.
Interment was made in Roland cemetery.
O. S. Boyd sang a solo at the prayer service and sang "Behold a Host" and Don Boyd sang "Face to Face" at the church.
Pall bearers were Sam J. Nelson, Oscar E. Twedt, Oscar G. Twedt, W. W. Quam and Grant Eggland.
Mrs. A. R. Erickson and Mrs. Grant Eggland had charge of the flowers.
Obituary
Andrew J. Shold was born at Skaanevik, Norway, on August 2, 1875. He left Norway for America in 1891 at the age of 16 years and came to Roland, where he had since made his home, with the exception of a few year spent in Washington state.
He was married on Feb. 27, 1905, to Marie Sorem and they purchased a farm southeast of Roland, where they lived until 1938 when they bought a home in Roland.
In March of this year Mr. and Mrs. Shold went to Norway for a six-month visit with relatives. He became ill on the trip and passed away in a hospital in Bergen shortly after their arrival.
Mr. Shold held a number of positions of trust in the Roland community, was a member of the board of directors of the Farmers Mutual Insurance company and of the Farmers Co-Op elevator board and at one time was a member of the creamery board.
He was a long-time member of Salem's church and had served on the board of trustees. He was a member of the Building committee at the time of his death.
Survivors
Surviving are his wife, who is still in Norway; five children, Jeffrey of Williams, Erling of Nevada, Mrs. Andrew (Veda) Bakke and Arthur Shold of Roland and Mrs. Harold (Martha) Coughenour of Maxwell; 13 grandchildren; two sisters in Norway, and a nephew, Olaf Haaland of Frost, Minn., who made his home with the Sholds for several years.
Those from a distance attending the last rites came from Blue Earth, Elmore and Frost, Minn., Bader, Webster City, Randall, McCallsburg, Marshalltown, Des Moines, Ames, Huxley, Slater, Alden, Maxwell, Story City, Nevada, Jewell, Radcliffe, Zearing and Colo.
