THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, August 21, 1902, page 8, column 1. "Died Very Suddenly. - The people of Maxwell were very much shocked Thursday morning when the report was spread that our worthy townsman, D. H. Armstrong, had dropped dead. Mr. Armstrong had the contract to sprinkle the streets and was thought to be in good health, although he had been complaining a little for a few days, he was able to attend to duty regularly and the same morning that he died had helped to put some hay in the barn, it having rained so that the streets were not in need of attention. They had just put in one load and were waiting for another when he dropped dead, the cause of his death was paralysis of the heart. D. H. Armstrong was born in Des Moines county, Iowa, March 9, 1850, and died in this city August 14, 1902, age fifty-two years, five months and five days. He has always been a resident of Iowa, his younger days being spent at the old homestead, but moved to Hancock county in the eighties where he lived until September 20, 1900, when he moved to Maxwell where he has resided ever since. The deceased was married to Miss Hattie B. Furry April 18, 1872, and to this union was born five children, four of whom and the mother survive him. Mr. Armstrong was a man of upright christian character and was admired by all who knew him. His deeds of kindness will ever be remembered by a host of friends. He has been a loyal member of the Methodist church since he was twenty-two years old and his life in all that time has been characterized by faithful work. The funeral was held at the M. E. church on Saturday at 2:30 p. m. and was in charge of the pastor, Rev. O. F. Shaw, and the body was interred in the Maxwell cemetery to await its final summons. The pall bearers were W. V. Smith, J. G. Kopf, Edward Fisher, John Angelo, J. M. Olinger and Henry Cole. The church decorations and floral contributions were many and very beautiful. A son, Ray Armstrong and wife, and daughter, Mrs. A. B. Rice and baby, of Austin, Minnesota, a sister, Mrs. Mary Roberts, of Henry county, and a nephew, Wm. Perkins, of Des Moines, were in attendance at the funeral. Mr. Armstrong has another sister but she was unable to be here on account of sickness. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the community."
