Last Rites For Mrs. Joe Wheelock Held on Monday

Funeral services were held Monday morning at St. Patrick's Catholic church for Mrs. Joe L. Wheelock, Sr., 1305 Seventh street who passed away Friday, Feb. 10, at the Mary Greeley hospital in Ames where she had been a patient for several weeks.

Solemn requiem high mass was solemnized by Rev. Vern F. Cross assisted by Rev. N. A. Steffen and Rev. Francis Dunn of St. Cecelia's church in Ames.

The mass was sung by Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Howe of Ames, Mrs. Ernest Thoreson of McCallsburg sang "Ave Maria, Bright and Pure" at the close of the mass.

The many beautiful flowers and spiritual offerings were cared for by Mrs. Gene Cagwin, Mrs. Millard Runneals and Miss Millicent Fagerburgh.

The casket bearers were Chas. Nelson of Ames, Harvey Collins, Glenn Davis, Lester Vail and Charles Morell of Nevada and Steven Wheelock of Anamosa. Interment was in the Nevada Catholic cemetery.

Obituary

Kathryn E. Moroney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Moroney, was born in Hannibal, Mo., Sept. 3, 1881 and passed away in Mary Greeley hospital, Ames, Feb. 10, 1950 at the age of 68 years, five months and seven days.

When a small girl she moved with her family to Story county, living on a farm four miles east of Nevada. She was united in marriage to Joe L. Wheelock, Sept. 30, 1907 and to this union were born two sons and three daughters, all of whom with the husband and father, survive her.

Mr. and Mrs. Wheelock lived 35 years of their married life on the farm four miles east of Nevada where their family was born and reared. They moved to Nevada in 1942.

Mrs. Wheelock was a faithful member of St. Patrick's Catholic church and was active in the work of the church until ill health made in necessary for her to stop. She was a loving and faithful wife and mother, always willing to give service to other people and she will be greatly missed by her family, relatives and friends.

Surviving Mrs. Wheelock are her husband, Joe L. Wheelock, her two sons, Joe L. Wheelock, Jr., and Martin E. Wheelock, both of Ames, and her three daughters, Mrs. James Crosby of Marshalltown, Mrs. W. E. Oberg of Fort Dodge and Kathryn E. Wheelock at home.

She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Frank Lynch of Eagle Grove and one brother, John Moroney of 1025 Lincoln avenue, Nevada. Her parents, one brother and two sisters preceded her in death.

Friends and relatives attending the last rites from a distance were from Omaha, Neb., Mankato, Minn., Eagle Grove, Fort Dodge, Marshalltown, Zearing, Colo, Boone, Anamosa, Algona and Ames.
