ORTHUN PASSED AWAY SATURDAY
Former Business Man Dies After a Lingering Illness at Age of Sixty-One Years
Knudt J. Orthun was born in Sevde, Norway, on January 6, 1861 and died October 7, 1922, after suffering several months from cancer of the stomach. He was married in 1888 to Mary Holland and this union was blessed with twelve children, two of whom have preceded their father to the Great Beyond.
In 1902 they came to this county from Norway and have made Roland their home since with the exception of one year when they lived at Iowa Falls. Mr. Orthun has been in the shoe repair business here for fifteen years.
He leaves to mourn his death his wife and ten children: Mrs. O. B. Christian of McCallsburg, Mrs. M. C. Henderson of Ormsby, Minn., Mrs. R. M. Henderson of Radcliffe, Mrs. Chester Christianson of Mankato, Minn., Mrs. H. L. Henderson of Story City, and Mrs. John Millang, Emma, Mildred and Ruby, all of this place and Arthur, who is attending Luther College at Decorah and seventeen grandchildren besides two brothers, Ole and Nels, in Norway.
Funeral service were held Tuesday from Bergens Lutheran Church, Rev. Sumstad preaching the funeral sermon.
