Sarah Britson was born October 11, 1853, at Grundy county, Illinois, and was a daughter of Sjur and Johanna Britson. In the summer of 1856 a large number of families living in the section of Illinois decided that they would seek their fortunes in the unknown lands of Iowa and a large caravan of covered wagons drawn by oxen in most cases, wended their way westward toward the setting sun. After weeks of strenuous traveling they finally reached this community and established their homes, the Britson home being established one mile east of Roland.

The deceased grew to womanhood in this new country and in 1871 was married to L. N. Christenson. They lived at different times at DeWitt and Nevada, and at the time of his death in 1908 they lived in Washington. His remains were brought to Iowa for burial, he being laid to rest in the Nevada cemetery.

After the death of her husband Mrs. Christenson made a visit to Iowa, after which she established her home in Portland, Oregon, where her two daughters live and who together with their brother, who still lives in Washington, are left to mourn the death of their kind and loving mother. She also leaves five grandchildren and one great grandchild and her two sisters, Mrs. John Danielson of Roland, Mrs. Hannah Sexe of Nevada, and her two brothers, B. J. and Sam Britson of Roland.
