RICKETTS DIED LAST FRIDAY
Story County Sheriff Passed Away Last Monday Morning After Two Weeks Illness. Was Candidate of Republican Party For Another Term.
W. A. Ricketts, who for the past four years has been sheriff of Story county, died at his home at 6:30 Monday morning following a two weeks' illness which physicians say was caused from ptomaine poisoning.
At times during his illness it appeared that he would recover from the effects of the poison, but other complications developed resulting in his death.
Sheriff Ricketts had lived in Story county for more than 30 years and was well known by the people of the community. He also served as sheriff of Story county for four years staring in 1904.
In addition to being sheriff of Story county Mr. Ricketts was for many years chief of police at Ames. He was appointed to that capacity in 1896 and served in the capacity until 1903. He was appointed chief of police in 1910 and served until 1915.
Mr. Ricketts' present term as sheriff of Story coumty would have expired Jan. 1. At the time of his death he was a candidate for the two-year term following.
He is survived by two brothers, Andy Ricketts and George Ricketts, who live at Coshoeton, O., four sisters, Mrs. Anna Henderline of Omaha, Mrs. Lila Bond of Kansas City, Mrs. Netta Wolf of Cleveland, O., and Mrs. Liza McGuire of Cosheton, O., three sons William, who is attending school at the Univerity of Iowa; Robert who lives at Zearing; and Bernice Ricketts of Ames; and one daughter, Mrs. Horace Kern, who lives at Ames.
All of the chidren were summoned to his bedside previous to Mr. Ricketts' death.
