Story City Man, Invalid Daughter Burn to Death

Story City, March 29--The charred bodies of Ed Holm, 56, and his 23-year-old daughter Junis, were found in the debris of their farm home, after a fire of unknown origin early Sunday morning. The blaze was discovered by a passing motorist about 4 a. m., who called the Story City fire department.

Lights had been seen about the house which stood on an acreage northwest of town, late Saturday night but the cause of the early morning fire is unknown.

The house was a mass of roaring flames when the Story City fire truck arrived upon the scene and there was no possibility of saving anything.

The house stood upon a small acreage, known as the Obe place, and had been occupied by Holm and his invalid daughter for a short time. Before locating there, they had lived southeast of Story City, in Howard township.

The wife has been dead for a number of years and he leaves besides the crippled daughter, a son, Harold Holm, with the U. S. Armed Forces in North Africa, and a daughter, Mrs. Ihle of Elmore, Minn.; also a brother and two sisters in Marshalltown.

The home was located over the line Hamilton county and the sheriff, as well as the coroner, of that county were called for an investigation and possibly an inquest.

The funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p. m. at the Bethel Lutheran church in Story City, with Rev. A. J. Bringle in charge. Burial will be in the cemetery north of McCallsburg.
