Obituaries
A Pioneer Resident laid to Rest last Saturday. Also the Four Year old Son of Mr. and Mrs Wm. Myrland.

One of the earliest settlers in this community and one of the founders of the Bergen Lutheran church, Mr. Oscar (Aslak) Thompson was laid to rest last Saturday afternoon. Funeral services wre held at the home of his daughter, Mrs John Nereim, living north of town and from Bergen church at 3 o'clock, Rev. M.O. Sumstad spoke the words of comfort to the bereaved family. Interment took place at the Roland Cemetery.

Mr. Thompson was born at Nerstrand Prestagjeld, Norway, on May 4, 1835, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Henry Stole, living near Forest City, on Wednesday evening, April 11, thereby having reached almost the age of 88 years. He immigrated to this country in the year 1858 and came to Lisbon, Ill., and on November 4, the same year, he was united in holy marriage to Ragnhild Jacobson Aabo. He moved westward in the year of 1865 in covered prairie schooners with a band of other settlers, and established himself with his family on the old Thompson farm south of town. A few years ago he moved into town and has resided here since until about three weeks ago he was taken to Forest City to make his home with Mr. and Mrs. Henry Stole.

To this union nine children were born, of whom four preceded their father in death. Those surviving him are Mrs. John Nereim and Able Thompson of this place, Oscar O. Thompson of California, Mrs. John Halvorson of Dallas, Wis., and Mrs. Henry Stole of Forest City, also 36 grand children and 21 great grandchildren. Mrs. Oscar Thompson passed away on December 4, 1922, at their home in south Roland. This pioneer couple were enthusiastic workers for church and community and helpful where help was needed.
