DEATH OF A. O. WYDELL

Sudden Death of a Promising Young Attorney

A gloom was cast over this community Wednesday when it was learned that attorney A. O. Wydell had died during the night, at the home of his father, Nels Wydell.

Mr. Wydell came home from Ames a week ago Saturday and has been confined to his bed since that time suffering from uremic poisoning. Mr. Wydell has practiced his profession at Ames for the past ten years. He was 47 years of age at the time of his death.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon from Bergens Lutheran church.

Attorney Wydell Laid To Rest

A large concourse of friends, from different parts of the county attended the funeral of A. O. Wydell here Saturday afternoon. The funeral services were held from Bergen Lutheran Church and conducted by Rev. M. O. Sumstad, the local pastor, and by Rev. Iver Iverson of Ames. Mr. Wydell died at the home of his father, Nels Wydell on Wednesday morning, February 1, after an illness of two weeks. He had been in failing health for some months, suffering with Bright's disease.

Axel O. Wydell was born near Bergen, Norway, May 1, 1874, and at the age of 10 years came to this country with his parents. He attended the local school until 17 years of age, when he entered the Cedar Valley Seminary at Osage, graduating from that institution in 1897. Several years later he attended Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls, from which he graduated in 1902.

At the completion of his school work he accepted a position as superintendent of the Slater schools, a position he held for six years. In 1907 he returned to Roland and was in charge of our schools for 2 years. In 1909 he entered the State University at Iowa City for the study of law. after being admitted to the bar he practice his profession at Nevada for two years and then moved to Ames, where in a few years he built up a lucrative practice.

Mr. Whitetail was a man loved and honored by all who knew him. Since his early youth he had been industrious and ambitious and solely through his own efforts he secured and education that later enabled him to enter his chosen profession. While a resident here he always took a an active part in church work and was at the time of his death secretary of the Lutheran Church at Ames.

He leaves his aged father, Nels Wydell, three sisters, Mrs. J. W. Anderson of Chicago, Mrs J. A. Selts and Miss Louise Wydell of this place, and a niece, Mrs. Pearl Harrison of Cambridge, who were all present at the funeral.

The Story County Bar Association, of which Mr Wydell was a member, attended the funeral in a body. Those being present were attorneys Lee, Garfield, Luke, Buck & Nichols of Ames, Addison, Hadley, Welty, Hanson and Langland of Nevada.
