John Mathis* Will Be Buried in Ames Cemetery Today

John I. Mather, 71, Grant township farmer and long time leader in Story county farm bureau work and other public activities, who died at the University hospital at Iowa City, Saturday, Sept. 3 will be buried in Ames cemetery this afternoon following funeral services at 4 p. m. at the Congregational church in Ames, with his pastor, Rev. McLaughlin in charge.

The deceased was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Mather, born in DuPage county, Illinois, April 8, 1867. He came to Story county with his people when a boy and united in marriage to Rowena C. Sayles, at Ames, March 19, 1890, and they immediately located on a farm in that part of the county. Two children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Mather. They were the son, V. B. Mather, now of Tiffin, Ohio, and the daughter, Vera, now Mrs. R. W. Hayes of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. These, with his aged mother and sister, Mrs. Fannie Hollingsworth, survive him, as do two grandchildren.

Mr. Mather had been failing in health for several years and had been taken to the University hospital about six weeks ago, but complications were such that there was no help for him.

Everything possible in the way of medical aid was don for him but to no avail. During his severe suffering he showed great fortitude and courage. Mrs. Mather was in constant attendance at his bedside all through his illness.

John, as he was familiarly known, had a wide acquaintance over the county and was held in the highest esteem by all.

*The headline gives the wrong name of the deceased. It should be John Mather, not John Mathis.
