From The Roland Record, Roland, Story County, Iowa, Thursday December 2, 1920.

FIRST PUBLISHER OF RECORD PASSES AWAY

William E. Armstrong, the first publisher of the Roland Record, died Sunday evening at the home of his son, Charles E. Armstrong at Nevada. Mr. Armstrong was 86 years of age at the time of his death.

Mr. Armstrong was one of the pioneers of Story county taking up his residence with his parents in Nevada in the year 1855. He has lived in the county continuously since that date, the majority of that time as a resident of Nevada.

In February, 1895, Mr. Armstrong came to Roland and launched the Roland Record. He continued in this business for a number of years, when he sold out to his son Chas. E. Armstrong, now news editor of the Nevada Journal.

Mr. Armstrong suffered a paralytic stroke a number of years ago which left him seriously cripple up for some time. He had suffered a number of other afflictions of similar nature and of later years had been a sufferer from heart trouble, which was the final cause of death.

Mr. Armstrong is survived by three children, Chas. E. Armstrong and Glenn Armstrong of Nevada and Henry Armstrong of Des Moines.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday at the Presbyterian church. Interment took place in the Nevada cemetery.
