SUDDEN DEATH OF ROLAND CITIZEN
Sudden Death of Peter Nockling - Funeral Held Wednesday
Peter Nockling, one of Roland's respected citizens, passed away suddenly Saturday morning from heart disease. Mr. Nockling as hauling wood to his home, from the John Nerem farm and had just gotten off his load to close the gate, when he was stricken. Mr. Nerem, who was in the farm yard, noticed the team standing alone and came down to the gate to investigate. He found Mr. Nockling lying in the throes of death. Mr. Nerem summoned aid at once and carried him to the house where he died before medical aid reached him a few minutes later.
Peter Nockling was born in Finas, Norway, on May 20, 1849, and died on Saturday, December 4, thereby being 71 years of age at the time of his death. On April 12, 1879, he was united in marriage to Ragnhild Handeland and a few years later they emigrated to this country, settling first in Roland, where he has continued to make his home up to the time of his death.
To this union one son was born, Knute Nockling of Marshalltown, who is now left to mourn his death, Mrs. Nockling having passed away early in 1918. On April 12, 1919 Mr. Nockling was united in marriage to Elizabeth Matre of Dows.
Mr. Nockling was a faithful member of the Salem church, having affiliated himself with that church soon after coming here. He was a man of many kind impulses and his daily life was such that it spoke for him a true Christian character.
Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon from Salems church. Interment took place in the Roland cemetery.
