Former Nevada Man Died in Ottumwa

Fred Stevens, 72, early day resident of Nevada and a brother-in-law of Bert B. Child and Harry F. Child of this city, died Tuesday afternoon at a hospital in Ottumwa and his body is expected here for burial Thursday. Interment will be in the George Child family lot. The funeral party will drive overland from Ottumwa.

Mr. Stevens leaves besides his wife Hattie Child-Stevens, one son, Earl Stevens, a civil engineer, now located at Galesburg, Ill. The other son, Arthur Stevens, died several years ago.

Mr. Stevens lived with the Lockwood family in Nevada when a young man and it was here that he was married. Later they lived near or in Rhodes for many years, after which they moved to Boone, then to Des Moines and finally to Ottumwa, where he has been on the road for scale company.

A few weeks ago be submitted to an operation for bladder trouble and never recovered, remaining in the hospital until he finally died Thursday, just after noon.

Definite information at the the time of arrival of the funeral party here, and as to the services, was not available at noon today.
