Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Mardell Jane Hoeper, age 77, of rural Story City, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2019 at Mary Greeley Medical Center.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, January 6, 2020 at Gilbert Lutheran Church, 135 School Street, Gilbert, Iowa 50105. Friends may call from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 5, 2020 at the Soderstrum Funeral Home, 618 Lafayette Avenue, Story City, IA 50248. Burial will be in the South Saint Petri Cemetery, rural Gilbert.

Born on February 19, 1942 in Sumner, Iowa, Mardell was the daughter of Henry and Mildred (Warnke) Elsamiller. She attended school in Sumner and was united in marriage to Eldon Hoeper on July 28, 1963 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sumner.

Mardell was a homemaker and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening in her younger years, as well as spending time in the kitchen, cooking and baking. Mardell had an extensive collection of bells. She was a member of the Gilbert Lutheran Church.

Mardell is survived by her husband, Eldon of Story City; two children, Kim (Geoff) O’ Banion of Polk City and David Hoeper of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren: Brittany, Brady, and Beau O’ Banion; sisters, Lavonne (John) Williams of Ames and Karen (Al) Fritz of Waterloo; and a brother, Richard (Brenda) Elsamiller of Sumner; brother-in-law, Eugene (Ramona) Hoeper of Dodge City, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Brant O’Banion; and three brothers: Allen Elsamiller, Donald Elsamiller and Dale Elsamiller in infancy; sisters-in-law, Geraldine Hoeper and Karen Wheeler.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City and online condolences may be left for Mardell’s family at www.adamssoderstrum.com.
