Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.
Lois B. Houghton, age 78, of Sheldahl, passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2019 at her home.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, December 30, 2019 at Harvest Assembly of God Church in Huxley. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held at 2:30 P.M. at Highland Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines.
Born on January 21, 1941 in Des Moines, Lois was the daughter of Virgil and Emma (Hubbs) Simpson. She graduated from Carlisle High School in 1959. Lois was united in marriage to Larry Houghton on December 27, 1958 at Berean Assembly of God Church in Des Moines. Together, Lois and Larry raised their four children. Lois worked at several different jobs throughout the years. She was employed as the secretary at Bud’s Automotive in Huxley for several years prior to her retirement.
Church was very important to Lois. She was very involved in her Tuesday night Bible Study. Lois enjoyed her monthly luncheons with her classmates. Lois liked to stay busy and was very particular about their home. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, and needlepoint.
Lois is survived by her children: Larry (Robin) Houghton of Sheldahl, Laura Stratton of Fort Rucker, Alabama, Leigh Houghton of Perry, and Lathan (Brandi) of Juneau, Alaska; 5 grandchildren: Jason Stratton, Janae Kester, Landon Houghton, Jessica Miles, and Heidi Houghton; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Fern Trainor; and brothers, Richard (Mary) Simpson and Bill (Marcia) Simpson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Larry; a granddaughter, Christina Houghton; and a brother-in-law, Paul Trainor.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Soderstrum Funeral Home and online condolences may be left for the family at www.adamssoderstrum.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.
