Hold Final Rites For Miss Margaret Donnelly

Funeral services were held Friday morning, July 8, in St. Mary's church, Colo, for the late Margaret Evangelist Donnelly, 83, who passed away at home on July 5.

Solemn requiem mass was said by the Rev. Father Vern Cross.

Music was furnished by Mrs. Roger Hopkins and Miss Martha Hopkins with Mrs. Frances O'Donnell presiding at the organ.

Casket bearers were Pat Fitzgerald Sr., Golly Smith, William Jennett, William Sinnott, Joe Untrauer and Joe Hopkins.

The many beautiful flowers were cared for by Mrs. Phoebe Wolfe and Mrs. Mattie Helyer.

Burial was in the family lot at St. James cemetery.

Obituary

The following obituary is a brief life sketch of the deceased: Margaret E. Donnelly was born at New Dublin, Ill., to Nicholas and Ann Donnelly, on Dec. 27, 1866. The family moved to Epworth, Iowa, where they resided for a short time before coming to Colo 68 years ago, where they established the family homestead, southeast of town. In 1920, with her mother and sister, Kathryn, she moved to the present home in Colo.

She attended the rural schools near Colo and for some time was a dressmaker at the Sherman shop in Nevada.

She was woman of pleasing personality and keen wit. A great lover of flowers and until the past few years had supplied the altars of St. Mary's church from her garden. She was making her fifth set of linens for the altar at the time of her death.

The deceased was in failing health the past year from a heart ailment and was confined to her bed, but a few days. Her sister, Mrs. Blink, had been assisting in her care the past three weeks.

Survivors

Surviving are her sisters, Mrs. Ella Carmody of Freeport, Ill., Mrs. Alice Blink of Nicholas, Wis., Mrs. Agnes Orr and Kathryn Donnelly, and one brother, John of Colo. Also surviving is Paul Allen of Indianola, who she cared for and raised as a son, besides several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Christopher, and sisters, Mrs. Bridget McGuire and Mrs. Mary Shelton.

Those attending the funeral from a distance came from Brookfield, Ill., Iowa City, Oshkosh, Wisc., Freeport, Ill., Burlington, Nicholas, Wisc., Marshalltown, Kansas City, Mo., State Center and Indianola.

The Ladies of St. Mary's served a dinner at the church parlors for the funeral cortege at the noon hour.
