Mrs. Marshall T. Shelton

Mary Donnelly was born near Freeport, Ill., Oct. 27, 1862, and died at the home of her mother, Mrs. N. Donnelly Oct. 11, 1915, at the age of nearly 53 year. She was of the family of ten children of Nicholas and Anne Donnelly and her passing the first in the family aside from that of two other children who died in infancy. She came to Story county with her parents in 1881, was married to Marshall T. Shelton Sept. 4, 1893. they made their home in Nevada for fifteen years, lived on the home farm one year and then removed to Dunkerton and resided there and at Waterloo. Mrs. Shelton's health failed in the spring and the home was broken up. A surgical operation at Rochester gave hope of recovery but after some time it was evident that the trouble would prove fatal. Kind and loving hands of family and friends helped to relieve the suffering but could not war off the inevitable. Hers was a life of unselfish love and devotion to home and husband to members of her family, her church and countless friends. The funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock from St. Mary's Church at Colo and interment in St. James Cemetery beside the grave of her father. She leaves her mother, six sisters, Mrs. Bridget McGuire of Colo, Mrs. Ella Carmody of Freeport, Ill., Mrs. Alice Blink of Rhodes, Mrs. Agnes Orr and Miss Margaret and Kathryn Donnelly and one brother John besides a number of nieces and nephews and other relatives.
