Funeral Rites Held For Mary Alwilda Brown

Funeral rites for Mrs. Mary Alwilda Brown who died Wednesday at her home in Iowa Center were held Friday at two o'clock in the Iowa Center church. Rev. C. E. Lookingbill was in charge of the services. During the services the following obituary was read:

Mary Alwilda Fry, daughter of John and Elizabeth Fry, was born in Iowa Center, Iowa, April 15, 1867, and departed this life at her home in Iowa Center on June 14, 1944, at the age of 77 years and 29 days. She was one of a family of twelve children, all of whom, with the exception of an infant daughter grew to manhood and womanhood in this community.

On December 3, 1895, she was united in marriage to David A. Brown; also of Iowa Center.

Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by two daughters, Mrs. Maude Godby and an infant daughter, also one grandchild, four brother and two sisters.

She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, David Brown; three children; Mrs. George Barker of Des Moines and Clarence and Everett Godby of Iowa Center; four great grandchildren: Roscoe Flora of Camp Gordon, Georgia, Henry Flora with the American Expeditionary Forces in England and Gloria and Evelyn Godby of Iowa Center. Also three brothers and two sisters.

Warren Fry of Marshalltown; George and James Fry, both of Nevada; Mrs. Ida Alderman of Elwell and Mrs. Ethel Rutherford of Indiana.

Many years ago, during the pastorate of Reverend Pickford, she became a member of the United Evangelical church at Iowa Center, and was active in church and choir work as long as youth and health permitted. She remained a member of this church until the time of her death.

Wilda Brown, with her husband has given much of her life to the love and care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren; and having thus "cast her bread upon the waters," found it returned to her in the loving care given to her by them during her last days upon earth.
