Funeral Services Held Saturday for Late O. L. Dunkelbarger

The body of O. L. Dunkelbarger, 91, who died at his home here Thursday afternoon, was laid to rest in the family lot in the Nevada cemetery Saturday afternoon, with the Masonic committal services read by Ira Kempkes.

Brief funeral services were held at the Morfoot Funeral home, in charge of Dr. J. O. Simon, who offered prayer, read a lifesketch of the deceased and preached a brief funeral service.

Burial was by the side of his wife, Nettie Briggs-Dunkelbarger, who died about 43 years ago, when the daughter, Nettie, was a small babe of three months.

Harry Christiansen was at the piano and played a number of hymns but there was no singing. The floral offerings were many and very beautiful, a silent tribute to the age pioneer, who had been a resident of Nevada for three-quarters of a century, or since 1875, and who for many years had been an active business man of the city and prominent figure in the life of the community.

For many years Mr. Dunkelbarger has been associated with J. A. King in the lumber and grain business. It was in 1915 that Glen R. Newton entered the employe of Dunkelbarger & King. In 1916 Mr. King retired and Mr. Dunkelbarger took his son Wyatt into the business which was operated under the firm name of Dunkelbarger & Son, and a year later Mr. Newton entered the business as the elder Mr. Dunkelbarger retired and since that time Mr. Newton has had charge of the business, for many years as sole owner. During these 25 years or more Mr. Newton was closely associated with Mr. Dunkelbarger and was a close friend and had been intimately associated with the family.

Among the relative from out-of-the-city who were here for the services were Mr. and Mrs. H. N. Silliman of Cedar Falls, the latter a niece of Mr. Dunkelbarger.

Others from out of the city were Mrs. Genevieve Montgomery and Mrs. Edna Wendell of Des Moines, a long time friend, Mrs. Addington of Des Moines, Mrs. Minnie A. Mills of Mt. Pleasant, and several from other parts of the country.

Mr. Dunkelbarger leaves in his immediate family only his daughter, Mrs. Nettie Dunkelbarger-Hill and son-in-law, Lenus Hill, who had been in the home and cared for him during the failing years of his long lifetime; Wyatt Dunkelbarger, the son, now in the east, and grandson, Wyatt Dunkelbarger, Jr., who is now in a camp in Maryland and the granddaughter, Alice Dunkelbarger-Wolfe of Marshalltown.
