J. H. Golden Dies; Double Funeral This Afternoon
Double funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church in Maxwell this afternoon for J. H. Golden, 83, who died at 3:30 a. m. today, and his wife, Susan Agnes Gamble-Golden, 83 who died Tuesday evening.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Golden had been invalids for some months, and when the wife passed away on Tuesday evening arrangements for funeral and burial were made for this afternoon at 2 o'clock. The passing of the husband early today made a double service not only possible but advisable.
Mr. Golden who like his wife whose maiden name was Susan Gamble, was a pioneer of the community south of Nevada, was born in Illinois, Jacob Henderson Golden, a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Golden, and came with his parents to Story county in an early day when they settled on a farm in southwestern Nevada township and there he had lived all of his life. He was 82 years, 10 months and 26 days of age at the time of his death.
The sole survivor in his immediate family is the only son, Leon W. Golden.
He is also survived by a brother Chester Golden of San Diego, Calif., and one sister, Mrs. Elsie Finley of 1228 Fourth street, Nevada.
One brother, Rev. A. L. Golden died in 1916, and a sister, Emma, who married Humes Cummings of Colo, died many years ago.
The Golden farm six mile south of Nevada is one of the oldest established farmsteads in that part of the county.
The services will be in charge of Revs. Kennedy and Lookingbill of Nevada.
Rev. Kennedy of the Central Presbyterian church here will be in charge of the services for Mrs. Golden, while their old friend, Rev. C. E. Lookingbill will be in charge of the services for Mr. Golden.
