Terry (Coach) Dowd, age 80, of Nevada died Friday, September 6, 2019. A Celebration of Life will be held on October 5, 2019 from 4 to 7pm at the Elks Lodge, 522 Douglas Ave, Ames, Iowa; with an Irish Toast at 6pm.

Terry Allen Dowd (Coach) was born on October 22, 1938 in Des Moines, Iowa. Throughout his life, Terry was dedicated to serving others and so after high school in Spirit Lake, Iowa, he joined the Army and served our country in the Vietnam War. Terry also boxed for the Army which later led to his becoming the head coach for the Iowa State Boxing Club, a mostly volunteer position he held for over 30 years.

As a Coach, Terry not only taught the "kids" how to box, but he also taught them about responsibility, honor and life. To him, they were not just students, they were his “kids” and he loved them as such. Coach was very proud of his boxers not only for their accomplishments at the gym and in the ring, but for their accomplishments in life after college and he remained in contact with many of them.

Terry is survived by his loving wife, Marge; daughters Laura Dowd and Lisa (Matt) O’Keefe; Stepdaughters Lorie (Thomas) Carroll and Wendi (Shannon) Odiet; Grandchildren Brittany, Nick and Kaitlyn; and Great Grandchildren Brylie, Brecklyn and Elijah. He will be greatly missed not only by his family, but also by the many boxers he coached throughout his long boxing career, as well as the many great friends he has made throughout the years.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to help with final expenses.
