Last Rites Conducted For Mrs. Rose Hand Wednesday at Collins

Final rites were conducted for Mrs. Rose E. Hand, long time resident of Collins, on Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 3, from the Methodist church in Collins. The Rev. C. E. Lookingbill officiated being assisted by Rev. Louis H. Joslin.

Miss Lola Oswalt was the soloist, with Mrs. Francis Stone presiding at the piano.

Casket bearers were Howard Hand, Richard Hand, Max Dodd, William Pritchard, Robert Hand and Fred Hand. Burial was in the Evergreen cemetery.

Mrs. Ora Hansen and Mrs. Clara Serbine cared for the flower arrangements.

Obituary

Rose E. Thompson, the daughter of the late Samuel and Kathryn Thompson, was born in Jasper county, Iowa, southeast of Collins on April 22, 1869; she departed this life Saturday, February 3rd, 1951, at the advanced age of 81 years, nine months and 11 days.

The past three and one-half years of her life were spent in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Earl Dodd and only a short distance from the place where she was born.

She grew to womanhood in this community and was united in marriage to William Hand at Nevada, Iowa, on Oct. 18, 1887. With the exception of a few years spent at Silver Creek, Neb., and in Dickenson county, Iowa, their home was few miles of Collins and they identified themselves with the affairs of this community.

To this union eight children were born, four whom survive.

She was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away March 16, 1931, two daughters, Hazel, Mrs. Clyde Templeman, Mabel, Mrs. F. G. Pritchard, and two sons, Vern W. and Arthur M. Hand.

Survivors

Those surviving are Marie, Mrs. Earl Dodd of Collins, Opal, Mrs. Anthony Pontel of Detroit, Mich., two sons, Faye of Collins, William A. of Burbank, Calif.; one sisters, Mrs. Ted Corbett of State Center, a brother, John W. Thompson of Collins, 30 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, one great, great-grandchildren, several nephews an nieces, and many more distant relatives.

Mrs. Hand was a member of the Collins Methodist church, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Happy Birthday Friends. She took an active part in all of them as long as her health permitted.
