Funeral Services Held For John W. Thompson

Funeral services fro the late John W. Thompson, who passed away last Wednesday morning, were conducted in the Collins Church of Christ in charge of the pastor Rev. Frank Sutton.

Mrs. Wayne Laughlin and Mrs. Donald Pointer sang "The Lord Knows Why" and "Beautiful Garden of Prayer" accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Hugh Fertig. Mrs. Reva Morrison, Mrs. Mercie Wear and Mrs. Clara Serbein took care of the many beautiful flowers.

Casket bearers were John Mullihan, Ray Tiffany, R. G. Patton, S. A. Carr, Bradford Stevens and Herbert Scott. Interment was in the Collins Evergreen cemetery.

John W. Thompson, son of Samuel and Catherine Thompson, was born in Clear Creek township, Jasper county, Iowa, Nov. 25, 1866. He departed this life in the hospital in Nevada, Nov. 20, 1951, at the age of 84 years, 11 months and 25 days.

He was a lifetime resident of this community with the exception of a few years spent in Nebraska and three years at Rhodes.

He was united in marriage with Linnie Snook at Collins on Nov. 28, 1894. She preceded him in death Sept. 27, 1948. They observed their Golden Wedding anniversary Nov. 26, 1944.

To this union four children were born: Vilda, Mrs. Vernon Holmes; Veda, Mrs Harry Dodd; both of Collins; Jessie, Mrs. Lee Russell and John O. Thompson of Omaha, Nebr.

He was of a family of eleven children, all of who preceded him in death with the exception of one sister, Mrs. C. T. Corbett of Eldora, Iowa. He is also survived by four children, three grandchildren, Lowell Holmes of Omaha, Nebr., Gale Holmes of Des Moines; Mrs. Marvin Stevens of Collins, and one great granddaughter, Judy Jo Stevens; also a number nieces and nephews, as well as many other relatives and a host of friends.

He was a long time member of the Masonic lodge, being actively interested as long as health permitted him to attend. he was member of the Church of Christ in Collins, where he served many years at Elder. The church in appreciation had elected him Elder for life.
