Obituary

Linnie Snook, daughter of William and Sarah Snook, was born in Collins township, March 7, 1873, and departed this life at her home in Collins, shortly after noon, Monday, Sept. 27, 1948, at the age of 75 years, six months and 20 days.

She grew to womanhood in the community and on November 28, 1894, was united in marriage with John W. Thompson at Collins.

To this union four children were born: (Vilda) Mrs. Vern Holmes; (Veda) Mrs. Henry Dodd, both of Collins; (Jessie) Mrs. Lee Russell of Omaha, Nebr., and John O. Thompson, also of Collins, all of whom survive.

Her life, with the exception of three years spent in Rhodes, has been lived in and near Collins.

She was a member of the local Church of Christ and its Auxiliary organizations and was a member of Collins Chapter No. 134 O.E.S., being actively interested as long as her health permitted her to attend.

Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by all her immediate family and death marks the passing of a pioneer family of this community.

Surviving are her husband; the four children, three grandchildren, Mrs. Marvin Stevens of Collins, Lowell Holmes of Des Moines and Gale Holmes of Sioux City; one great grandchild, Judy Stevens, and a number of more distant relatives and a host of friends.

The services were largely attended, many coming from a distance to pay their respects to one they loved respected.
