Marilyn Rae Lincoln
July 21, 1953 – August 24, 2019Marilyn (Murphy) Lincoln went home to her ever loving Lord on August 24, 2019 after an epic and courageous battle against cancer of almost 5 years. She fought with dignity, courage and a steadfast spirit of hope and love. Even at the end she forged on wanting to know what the next goal was for her to accomplish.
To know Marilyn was to know love. To be wrapped up in one of her famous bear hugs was to actually feel that love. To hear her laughter was to actually know what love sounded like. That laughter was in fact a homing beacon for us all.
Marilyn loved to cook with wine and sometimes actually even put the wine into the food. She studied wine and loved to share new wines with her friends and family. Every glass paired exceptionally well with her beautiful smile and famous laughter.
She loved her friends and family so much and we all loved her.
She was known as the Grandma that gave the best back and shoulder rubs ever. She would, in fact, make it impossible for the parents of those grandchildren to ever even come close to measuring up to her skills.
She loved to eat out with friends and family and Aunt Maude’s was her favorite. She enjoyed traveling and made frequent trips to Branson with Lanny to visit her dear friends. She would travel with her beloved puppy Bear on her lap or by her side.
She loved the farm and loved the peace it brought to her. It’s where she talked to her God on a daily basis. She loved her God and never felt that you had to find him just in Church. She found him in the outdoors, in the trees, birds and the wind that brushed her face. She did his work by loving everyone with all of her being at all times.
Marilyn was a feisty one. She had a mischievous and fun side that was just amazing to be around. If you ever got one of her good natured, “Would ya shut up?” you knew you had snuck in a good joke at her expense. She had an unbridled spirit that couldn’t be tamed. She was so very real.
She was ours and will always be ours.
Don’t be sad for her, be sad for ourselves and each other that we don’t have her here with us anymore.
Drink the wine and give the hug to someone you love please. That’s what she would’ve wanted.
Marilyn graduated from United Community School in 1971 and was instrumental in planning frequent reunions and gatherings for her classmates. She worked at Bourns Inc. in Ames until they closed and then went on to attend DMACC in Boone. Marilyn then worked at McFarland Clinic in Ames until retiring this past December.
Those left behind including are Marilyn’s husband of 47 years, Lanny, Brother Bob (Donna) Murphy of Cresco, Iowa; Nephew Troy (Melinda) Murphy of Cresco, Iowa; Nieces Tamra (Brady) Foster of Cresco, Iowa; Lisa (Mark) Scholz of Gerton, North Carolina; Kara (Joe) Foster of West Des Moines, Iowa; and Molly Garvey of Phoenix, Arizona.
Great nieces and nephews: Tyler Murphy, Cody Murphy, Mikaela Murphy, Trista Foster, Kyleigh Foster, Brooklyn Scholz, Amelia Scholz, Orion Garvey, Oliver Garvey, Ella Hendricks, Mason Foster and Audrey Foster.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents Marvin and Dorothy (Sampson) Murphy.
Memorials may be directed to the William R. Bliss Cancer Center in Ames or to the family.
Services will be at Stevens Memorial Chapel (607 28th St., Ames, IA 50010) with visitation on Friday, August 30 from 5-7pm and funeral on Saturday, August 31 at 1pm. A private burial will follow at a later date.
