Funeral Service For Josephine Severeid Held Thursday
Huxley, Aug. 27--Funeral service for Josephine Severeid who passed away Aug. 18, 1947 were held at the Palestine Lutheran Church of Huxley on Thursday Aug. 21, 1947 at 2 o'clock.
Before the service at the church a short prayer service was held at the home of a daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Sheldahl. Walter Christopher sang "Sunrise To-Morrow" after which Rev. Jacobson had scripture reading and prayer. A few words of comfort were spoken by Jesse Olson of Jewell after which he sang "Tell Mother I'll Be There."
The service at the church were in charge of her pastor Rev. H. E. Jacobson. A duet "Mother Knows" was sung by Mrs. Ed Hall and Mrs. Selma Wesvold. Rev. Jacobson spoke from John 6:40--And this is the will of him that sent me that everyone which seeth the son and believeth in him may have everlasting life and I will raise him up at the last day. Walter Christopher sang a solo in Norwegian "Den Store Vede Flak." Rev. Berland had closing remarks and Mrs. Hall and Mrs. Wesvold sang "We Are Going Down The Valley One By One."
There were many beautiful floral tributes and $115.00 was given to Mission in her memory.
Nephews of Mrs. Severeid served as pall-bearers, John Severeid and John Maland of Cambridge, Larry John and Lawrence Severeid of Des Moines, Jeffery Houge of Huxley.
Those from a distance who attended the service were Marie Severeid of Chicago, Mrs. Glen Covey, Charles City, Mr. and Mrs. Aber Anderson of Thompson, Mrs. Edith Richardson of Buffalo Center, Mr. and Mrs. Omar Maland of Chariton.
Also relatives from Story City, Jewell, Ames and Des Moines.
Obituary
Josephine Elizabeth Severeid, daughter of John and Elizabeth Severeid was born in Story County, Iowa, on August 26, 1881. She was baptized and confirmed in Palestine Church of which she has been a lifelong member.
On June 12, 1902, she was united in marriage to Peder J. Severeid of this community. Except for one year, during which they lived in Marshalltown and for seven years in Boone, they were lifelong residents of this community. To them seven children were born. Arthur, the oldest, passed away on September 12, 1919. Mr. Severeid passed away April 7, 1930. Since that time Mrs. Severeid had made her home, most of the time with her daughter and her family, Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Sheldahl.
For the past year she had not been well. On July 20th she suffered a broken hip and was taken to Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Complications set in and she passed away there on Monday morning, August 18th, at the age of 65 years, 11 months and 22 days.
She leaves to cherish her memory six children, J. O. Severeid of Cambridge; Mrs. Elizabeth Sheldahl, of Huxley; Walter, of Waterloo; Palmer, of Huxley; Joye, of Berkeley, California; and Mrs. Joyce Cooper, of Ottumwa, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; one brother, Ole Severeid, of Cambridge and one sister, Mrs. Mary Maland, of Huxley. Three sisters and one brother preceded her in death.
