John Simpson Pool Was Laid to Rest in Rodman

Funeral services for John Simpson Pool, native son of Story county, were held from the Rodman Presbyterian church Sunday afternoon.

The services were attended from here by his nieces and their husbands, Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Marshall and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence French and from Des Moines by Mr. and Mrs. Will Poole and Mrs. Claude Poole.

Burial was in Rodman

The following brief life history was read at the funeral service:

"John Simpson Pool, son of William and Sarah Emiline Pool, was born August 5, 1865, in the Johnson's Grove settlement, Story county, Iowa, and passed away at the Lester Van Horn Home in Rodman September 6, 1946 at the age of 81 years, one month and one day. He suffered a heart attack on June 2nd from which he never recovered.

The early years of his life were spent in Story county, and in 1901 Mr. Pool came to Palo Alto county and has resided here ever since, except for a few years spent near Deming, New Mexico.

While in Deming, he was united in marriage to Clo Slade Creed on May 11, 1914. Later he and his wife returned to Rodman and live on the Lewis Van Horn farm where Mrs. Pool passed away on October 26, 1931. After leaving the farm he spent some time with relatives and for past 10 years has made his home with his nephew, Lester Van Horn and family.

Five brothers and three sisters preceded him in death, those surviving him are one sister-in-law and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was a kind neighbor and friend to all who knew him. He attained a ripe old age and leaves a host of friends to cherish his memory.
