Funeral Service Held at Collins for James Gingles

Collins, Oct. 22--Funeral services for the late James G. Gingles, who passed away suddenly from a heart attack Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, was held from the Collins Methodist church Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock with the Rev. Ida I. Roberts, local pastor, in charge.

A mixed quartet, composed of Mrs. Curtis Marsh, Miss Colla Wood, Supt. G. E. Holmes and J. R. Witmer with Mrs. Elizabeth Forbes at the piano sang three songs, "In the Garden," "The Upper Garden," and "Good Night and Good Morning."

The many beautiful floral offerings were arranged at the church by Mrs. Floyd Cummings and Mrs. O. N. Serbein.

Interment was in Evergreen cemetery, Collins, by the side of the daughter, who passed away in 1936.

The pallbearers were O. H. Gearhart, J. E. Hale, E. A. McCord, S. W. Inman, Al Heintz and Clarke Chambers. The ritualistic burial services of the Masonic order was given at the grave with W. C. Heintz conducting the service.

The following life history was read at the church by the pastor:

James G. Gingles, third child of John and Martha Gingles was born near Aledo, Mercer county, Illinois, January 28, 1870 and passed away suddenly on Sunday afternoon, October 17, 1937, at the age of 67 years, eight months and 19 days.

When a boy of eleven years of age, he moved with his parents and other members of his family to near Rippy, Iowa, where he lived for a number of years.

As a young man, he worked as an engineer for a milling company at Coffeeville, Kansas, moving later to Dawson, Iowa, where he was employed by the Kansas City Grain Company.

He came to Collins in 1893, where he had charge of an elevator for the same company and for seven years was interested in that work. For many years he worked as a carpenter and contractor, but gave that up thirteen years ago to become to become custodian of the Collins Consolidated school, which position he held at the time of his death.

On July 1, 1894, he was married to Miss Alta Kintz of Collins and to the union a daughter, Mary, and a son, George, were born. The daughter preceded the father in death July 31, 1936. Besides his wife and son, he is survived by one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Drake of Pittsburg, Kansas and three brother, J. H. of Lamar, Missouri, R. K. and G. C. both of Pittsburg, Kansas; also two nieces, Mrs. R. N. Heilmann of Orville, California and Miss Greta Drake of Pittsburg, Kansas.

The deceased was an active member of the local Methodist church and gave freely of his time and talents to that church, and to the community as well. He was also a member of Fervent lodge 513, A.F. and A.M. of Collins.

Mr. Gingles will be greatly missed by the home, the school, the lodge, the church and the entire community, all of which he left so suddenly.

Gingles of Pittsburg, Kansas, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Shyrock and Gordon of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Marsh, Lillie and Bessie of Aledo, Illinois, Mrs. Sarah Downs and son Ed, Mr. and Mrs. Mac Cool, Mr. and Mrs. Scott Cool, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Cool, all of Baxter, Supt. and Mrs. E. R. Cope of Jesup, Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Biddick of Marion, Mrs. L. E. Bigger of Mount Vernon and possibly others.
