Funeral Services Held Friday For Severt K. Tweedt at Huxley
HUXLEY -- Funeral services were held Friday afternoon for S. K. Tweedt, who passed away Tuesday, September 2, at the Sunset home at Slater with Rev. Harry Stoutland in charge.
Rev. P. E. Onstad sang "I'm a Pilgrim." Services at the church opened with a solo "My Savior First of All" by Richard Will of near Estherville. Rev. Harry Stoutland gave the funeral sermon. He also sang "I'm But a Stranger Here." Rev. Peder Buland spoke a few words to the family. Mrs. John Tweedt of Estherville sang "Dem Store Hvide Flak vi se" at the close of the service.
Pallbearers were his four sons and two sons-in-law.
Obituary
Severt K. Twedt was born in Etne, Norway, June 24, 1856, and at the age of 30, came to America with his mother, one brother and three sisters. His father passed away in Norway.
He worked on a farm near Cambridge for a number of years.
On June 10, 1881, he was united in marriage to Olena Sheldahl at Roland. They farmed near Roland and Randall. In the spring of 1888, they moved to Emmett county near Estherville. In 1902 they sold that farm and moved back to Story county, just west of the Palestine church.
On November 24, 1902 his wife passed away and he continued to live on the farm with his seven children.
On March 14, 1907, he was united in marriage to Anna Hoversholm. They moved to Huxley where his wife passed away in 1942.
For the last four years, he had been cared for at the Sunset home at Story City where his eyesight failed him and for last two years was totally blind. He passed away September 2 at the age of 96 years, two months and nine days.
He is survived by four sons, Edward of Slater, Burney of Huxley, John of Estherville and Roy of Mt. Sterling, Ill.; two daughters, Mrs. Martha Lee of Humboldt, Mrs. Isabelle Valen of Estherville; also thirty five grandchildren; fifty five great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his two wives, one son, Chris and one brother and three sisters.
Relatives attending from a distance were from Estherville, Humboldt, Jewell, Story City, Des Moines, Dayton, Waterloo, Madrid, Cherokee, Renwick, Montour, Ames and Mt. Sterling, Ill.
