Death of Zearing Pioneer Early This Morning
Zearing, Nov. 24--Etna F. Moore, pioneer resident of the Zearing community passed away at five o'clock this morning at the Deaconess Hospital in Marshalltown. Death resulted from complications of several ailments.
Mr. Moore was born May 10, 1858, near Gifford in Hardin County, and had spent his entire lifetime as a resident of Hardin and Story counties. On April 9, 1882, he was united in marriage to Martha Alma Miller at Union, Iowa, and to this union ten children were born. In the year 1892 the family moved to a farm north of Zearing, later moving to town, where they have resided since 1904.
Mr. Moore has been active in public affairs, having served as assessor of the township, member of the creamery board, and member of the park board. He was a member of the Christian Church where he served as elder and clerk.
He was preceded in death by his wife, who passed away in January, 1934, and four children--Verna, who died in 1912 at the age of 21, Howard in August, 1934, Pearl in 1931, and one who died in infancy. Surviving are the daughters, Mrs. Elsie Bailey and Mrs. Nellie Manning of Zearing and Iva Rosen of Long Beach, Calif.; sons, Lester of Winnebago, Minn., Leonard of Lawrence, Kans., and Lee of Long Beach, Calif.; and a sister, Mrs. Emma Andeson of Iola, Kans.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 26, at 2 o'clock at the Christian Church in Zearing with the Rev. Richard Anthens in charge.
