Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Colleen Arlee Henryson, 93, of Story City passed away July 15, 2019 at her home in Story City. Funeral services will be Saturday July 20 at 10:30 am at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. Burial will follow in the Story City Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 at the Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City.

Colleen Arlee Henryson was born March 21, 1926 near Saline, MO to Charles Edwin and Audra Robbins. She met Gaylord Henryson during a wedding of mutual friends at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. One thing led to another and March 19, 1949 Gaylord and Colleen were married at the Little Brown Church.

Colleen and Gaylord worked together and with their family built and operated the KOA Campground and ran a successful farming operation. Colleen worked as the Assistant Post Mistress at the Story City Post office and to her fellow employees she became lovingly known as “Good Ol Colleen”. She was a hard worker involved in her community and participated in many volunteer efforts, although sometimes by her own admission she found herself not knowing if she was coming or going. She was always a welcoming and gracious hostess to all who came through her door.

In her later years, she and her sister, Coral enjoyed traveling together and remained very close. She was presented the Governor’s Volunteer Award by the State of Iowa. July 25, 2009 her loving husband, Gaylord passed away and she lived at Timberland Assisted Living for the last 10 years; within sight of her beloved home.

Colleen is survived by two sons Bruce and his wife Jan of Sioux Center, Iowa; Gary and his wife Kay of College Station, Texas; and daughter Beth and her husband Russ Schrooten of Katy, Texas.
She has 7 grandchildren, Christina Henryson, Matthew (Colleen) Henryson, Ryan (Stacy) Henryson, Kari Henryson Rutledge, Kelsey (Dakota) Price, Shaina Schrooten, and A.J. Henryson.

She is also survived by 8 great grandchildren, 2 brother in laws, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Coral Irwin, and infant daughter Gloria Sue Henryson. Colleen loved her family and made every effort to let know how precious they were to her. Her family and friends cherish her memory.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name.
