Butler P. Pool Was of a Pioneer Family
In the death of Butler P. Pool, who passed at his home on Seventh street the evening of May 24 this part of the county loses one of the real pioneers among the younger generation of men in the county, Mr. Pool having come here from Indiana as a boy and retained his residence for more than 58 years.
The funeral services were held from the Christian church Sunday afternoon after which interment was in the Nevada cemetery.
Mr. Pool was one of five sons and two daughters of Mr. and Mrs. William Pool. Three of the brothers Thomas, Nathan and Joseph preceded him in death as did on sister Mrs. Kate Airhart. The two survivors of that old and well known Richland township pioneer family are John Pool and Mrs. Louie Van Horn of Rodman.
Mr. Pool succombed after a long illness which started when he suffered a stroke of paralysis about a year and a half ago. Since that time he has gradually declined physically and it was realized for some time that there were no hopes to be held out for his recovery.
Butler Pinkney Pool was born Feb. 18, 1856 in Rowdolf [sic] county, Indiana and passed away Thursday evening May 24, 1923, 67 years, 3 months and 6 days old.
While yet a small of of 9 years he located, with his parents, within five miles of Nevada, on a farm. Mr. Pool was married to Miss Hanna Bryant January 23, 1881, and to this union four children were born, one of which died in infancy. Three daughters live to mourn his death, they being Mrs. Stella Ikehorn, Mrs. Leota Fry, Mrs. Louie Marshall, all of Nevada. The mother and wife, Mrs. Pool, having preceeded her husband in death September 14, 1919. One little grandchild, Carroll Wayne Marshall, also one sister, Mrs. Louis Van Horn of Rodman, Ia., and John Pool of Rodman, Ia., and other relatives and friends survive.
