Rites for Wood, Accident Victim, at Fernald Tuesday

Fernald, Dec. 10--Funeral services were held here Tuesday afternoon for Thomas Henry Wood who was killed northeast of Nevada Saturday night in an auto crash.

Rites were held in the Church of the Brethren with the Rev. J. A. Eby, pastor, officiating. Interment was in Murphy cemetery near Fernald.

The son of Louis and Alice Wood, he was born Dec. 13, 1878, in Bethalto, Ill., and die Dec. 6, 1947, at the age of 68 years, 11 months and 23 days.

Wood spent his early years in Illinois and was baptized in the Baptist church in 1900. On July 27, 1901, he was united in marriage with Iva Bundy. To this union were born three daughters. His wife and one infant daughter, Mae, preceded him in death.

In 1910 Mr. Wood came to Iowa and on Nov. 12, 1910, was married a second time, to Margaret Eckard. To this union 11 children were born. A son, Wilber, died June 20, 1914, at the age of four and a half months and a daughter, Lula, died Nov. 21, 1917, at the age of five days.

Wood lived in Fernald about 10 years before moving to south of McCallsburg in the spring of 1946. He was a carpenter by trade.

Wood is survived by his wife, nine daughters, Mrs. William Hoy and Mrs. James Hoy, both of Rhodes; Mrs. Jess Jortad, McCallsburg; Mrs. Henry Hastedt, Boone; Mrs. William Meier, Ames; Mrs. A. J. Corbin, Fernald; Erma, Ames; Inez and Loretta, at home, and two sons, Louis, Ames, and Thomas, Des Moines. Also surviving are 29 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
