Funeral Services Held Saturday For Mrs. John G. Oppedal

Story City, Dec. 10 -- A large concourse of relatives and friends attended the funeral services in the St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City on Saturday afternoon for Mrs. John G. Oppedal who died very suddenly at her home in Story City of a heart attack, on Tuesday night, Dec. 2. A short prayer service was held in her home preceding the church service with her pastor, the Reverend S. T. Nelson officiating. A special number "Behold A Host" by a double quartet was sund at the church.

The following served as casket bearers: Martin Swenson, Emmanuel Gabrielson, L. B. Brattebo, Albert Larson, Otis Frette and Martin Holland. Interment was in the Story City cemetery.

The following obituary was read: Mrs. John G. Oppedal, nee Brithe Millang, was born October 14, 1879 in Clear Lake township, Hamilton County, Iowa and passed away at her home in Story City, December 2, 1947 at the age of 68 years, 1 month and 18 days. Her parents, Herman and Ingeborg Millang, two sisters and one brother preceded her in death.

Mrs. Oppedal was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church to which faith she remained steadfast. In her youth she attended the public an parochial schools of her community.

March 4, 1903 she was united in marriage to John G. Oppedal of Stanhope, Iowa. For a number of years they were engaged in farming, residing in the vicinities of Stanhope and Ellsworth. In 1916 they moved to Story City.

At the time of her death Mrs. Oppedal was a member of th St. Petri Lutheran Church in which congregation she was a willing and faithful member.

John and Brithe would have celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary next spring, marking a span of life enriched with happiness. they also shared the sorrow that came in their path. Their home life was based on the Christian attributes of loving kindness and respect towards one another. Brithe's demise will leave treasured memories for her companion who mourns her passing.

Other survivors are four brothers and one sister: Ole Millang, Badger, Iowa, Imbert and Peder Millang of Randall, John Millang of Ames and Mrs. Arthur Carpenter of Randall, a number of nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends.
