GUY L. WAKEFIELD

Guy L. Wakefield, 91, of RR2, Ames, IA, died Wednesday, July 8, 1987, at Bethany Manor Nursing Home in Story City IA. He had been a resident there since 1985.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 11, at Adams Funeral Home in Ames IA with Rev. Ron Feuerhak from Bethany Manor officiating. Burial will be at Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Mr. Wakefield was born Oct. 10, 1895, in Story County IA to John O. and Martha (Longsdorff) Wakefield and was a lifetime resident of Story County. He received his education at Gilbert IA Schools and was a farmer. For many years he and his family ran a hay baler for neighboring farmers.

He was a veteran of World War I, having served in the US Army in France. He was president of the Milford School Board and served on the board of the Federal Land Bank.

He was married to Jessie Day at Boone IA Jan. 20, 1920. She died May 17, 1974.

Survivors include three sons, Donald E. Wakefield of Ames, Guy Wakefield Jr. of Gilbert and John E. Wakefield of RR2, Ames; a daughter, Velda E. Oliver of Ames; 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and four step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd "Shorty" Wakefield, and one granddaughter.

Visitation will be at Adams Funeral Home Friday afternoon and evening, July 10. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established for Bethany Manor.
