Funeral Services for Mrs. Nancy Lightfoot

Special to the Journal.
Zearing, March 12--Many friends were in attendance at the funeral services held Friday afternoon for Mrs. Nancy Lightfoot, pioneer resident of this community. The services were held at 2:30 at the Evangelical church in charge of the pastor, Rev. Baumgartner, assisted by Rev. Burkhart, pastor of the Church of Christ.

The pallbearers were among the old neighbors and friends of the family, they being C. P. Bean, A. D. Hix, W. R. Wickham, L. H. Norton, F. M. Bump and James Chance. The flower bearers were Mrs. Henry Hoberland, Mrs. A. D. Hix and Mrs. O. P. Abbey. Music was rendered by a mixed quartette including Mrs. Earl Ferguson, Mrs. H. G. Martin, Gilbert Womeldorf and Glen McBride. Burial was at the Zearing cemetery.

Nancy Belden Lightfoot was born in New York state, Nov. 8, 1851, and died at her home in Zearing Wednesday morning, March 7, 1928. When a small child she moved with her parents to Illinois where she grew to womanhood and on March 18, 1869, she was united in marriage to W. J. Lightfoot. They continued to reside there for a number of years and 46 years ago came to Story county and located on a farm three and a half miles southwest of Zearing. In the year 1901 the family moved to Zearing where the deceased continued to reside until her death. Her husband, W. J. Lightfoot, preceeded her in death Dec. 18, 1915, as did also the older son, Harry W., whose death occurred Nov. 16, 1926.

Those left to mourn her loss are two daughters and one son, Mrs. Louise Harris of Los Angeles, Cal., Mrs. Jessie Hankins of Albion, and Ray M. of this place. Four sisters and one brother and three grand children also survive, as does C. L. Belden, an uncle, of this place. Those in attendance at the services from away were, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh O'Neil of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Hankins of Albion, L. F. Hix of Rhodes, Lowell Harris of Nevada and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Tett of McCallsburg.
