Pines Funeral Saturday Afternoon

John W. Pines, age about 85 years, died at his home in the north part of the city Thursday and the funeral services were held from the Seventh-day Adventist church Saturday afternoon at 2:30, the services being in charge of Elder T. H. Neys, assisted by Elder Dorcas. Interment was in the Nevada cemetery.

The deceased had been failing for some weeks and died of complications incident to his advanced years. He had been a resident of Boone for many years, but a few years ago moved to Nevada where he had continued to live since.

He leaves besides his wife, one son, Dr. J. A. Pines of Orlando, Florida, and three daughters. One daughter is Mrs. C. A. Stone who, with her husband is now in the Panama Canal zone in missionary service for the Seventhday adventis people; another daughter is Mrs. Stensberg of Colorado, while the third is Mrs. Dora McKibben, who with her husband moved here a few weeks ago from Mason City to b with an assist in the care of her father.

The old gentleman was a man of Seventhday Adventist faith an was devout Christian and adherent to that belief. He was deeply beloved by the members of his family, as well as by those with whom he had long been associated in church work.

John Wesley Pines was born in Perry county, Pa., July 9, 1840 and passed away in Nevada, Iowa, April 30, 1925, at the age of 84 years, 9 months and 21 days.

He was the last to survive a family of thirteen children.

He came to Iowa in the early 60's an settled at Boone, where he resided for many years. He was engaged in the manufacture of brooms for a number of years of his residence there. He located in Nevada in the year 1911, where he has since resided.

He was united in marriage to Amanda Jane Haynes of Boone, April 30, 1868. To this union were born seven children, four of whom survive him. They are Mrs. Dora B. McKibben, of Nevada, Mrs. May P. Stone of Obispo, Canal Zone,, Panama, Mrs. Ida G. Stenberg, of Boulder, Colo., and Dr. John A. Pines of Orlando, Florida.

Mr. Pines was an industrious, hard working man, and even during his illness was constantly thinking of his work. His last illness of two months was marked with unusual patience.

Besides his four children above mentioned he is survived by his wife. The funeral service was held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 in the Seventhday Adventist church, of which organization he was a faithful member. The service was conducted by Elder T. H. Jeys, assisted by Elder J. W. Dorcas.

Pall bearers were N. C. Larson, Chris Kilcher, J. R. Bowles, J. Dirksen, N. Pardue and B. F. Carr.

Music was rendered by a quartet composed of W. C. Foreman, Mrs. H. H. Hicks, Helen Foreman ad Claude McWilliams, with Mrs. T. C. Nethery at the piano. Interment was made in the Nevada cemetery.
