Obituary

Mary E. Abel was born in Lee county, Ill, April 3, 1849, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Virgil Rainbolt, May 24, 1921, aged 72 years, 1 month and 21 days. In June of 1864 she was united in marriage to John M. Fisk in the same county and state where she was born. Here they continued to live until 1876, when they came to Iowa and settled near Gilbert. This continued to be their home until 1892 when they moved to Curlew, Iowa, where Mr. Fisk died. In 1916 Mrs. Fisk again came to Gilbert to make her home with her daughters, Mrs. Orin Lake, and Mrs. Virgil Rainbolt. To Mr. and Mrs. Fisk were born four sons and six daughters; two sons and four daughters preceeded their mother in death. Two sons, Sam Fisk of Spencer, Iowa, and Earl Fisk of Summers, Iowa, and two daughters, Mrs. Virgil Rainbolt and Mrs. Orin Lake of Gilbert, with one brothers, Daniel Abell, of Rock Falls, Ill., a sister, Mrs. Annis Cadduck [sic] of Paw Paw, Ill., with a host other relatives and friends are left to mourn her passing away. Mrs. Fisk had 38 grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren living. She was a conscientious Christian and for many years belonged to the Baptist church. On coming to Gilbert she united with the Congregational church and was ever true to all its activities. A short service was held at the Rainbolt home, by her pastor, Rev. Wisslef. The body was taken to Curlew for burial.
