From Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home & Crematory obituary, Nevada and Maxwell, Story County, Iowa:

Mary Ida (Martin) Birchmier, 83, of Collins, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2019, at Rolling Green Village in Nevada.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 21 at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 22 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church (1110 11th Street) in Nevada with Father Rick Dagit officiating. Burial will follow at St. James Cemetery in Colo.

Mary was born May 6, 1936, in Des Moines, the daughter of Raymond and Marian (Peterson) Martin. She graduated from Maxwell High School and attended Iowa State University. Mary was united in marriage to James Louis Birchmier on November 17, 1956. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Colo and loved working with horses and cattle. Mary enjoyed the 4-H fair, sporting events (especially Iowa State), playing bridge, reading and doing crossword puzzles. She was loved by many and will be missed by many.

Mary is survived by her husband James of Collins; her daughters: Julie (Daren) Laffey of Runnells and Jean Birchmier of Maxwell; her son, Mark (Marti) Birchmier of Maxwell; her grandchildren: Adam, Ryan (Haley), Matt, Chelsi and Brad; her great-granddaughter, Addison and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Michael James Birchmier; and her brother, Clyde Martin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. James Cemetery in Colo or Peoria Cemetery in Maxwell.

The family would like to thank Rolling Green Village and Suncrest Hospice for the wonderful care of Mary.

Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements.
