Valerie Rae Anderson, age 62, of Polk City, passed away on May 12, 2019 at Unity Point-Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.
Born on October 11, 1956, in Ames, Val was the daughter of Ervin and Ardelle (Earwicker) Hidlebaugh. She graduated from Ballard High School in 1974. Val was united in marriage to Delmar Anderson at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kelley on November 25, 1978. She worked for the State of Iowa, Department of Transportation as an administrative assistant until her retirement in 2005. Val had a great concern for others, but first and foremost were her children. She was a very attentive mother and especially enjoyed attending her children’s Little League games. Val’s leisure time was spent gardening, camping and reading. She was an animal lover and enjoyed trips to the zoo. Val was a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Polk City.
Val is survived by her husband, Delmar; her sons: Jeremy Anderson of Polk City and Joe (Cristana Kentopp) Anderson of Cedar Falls; her grandchildren: Ariel, Lucas, and Khloe Kentopp; and a sister, Vicki (Robert) Allen. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, May 17, 2019 at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Polk City. Friends may call from 5-7:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at the Adams Funeral Home in Ames. Burial will be in the Crocker Moeckly Cemetery near Polk City.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Adams Funeral Home and online condolences may be left for the family at www.adamssoderstrum.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church.
