Alvin “Al” Arnold Kibsgaard, age 78, of Ames, passed away on May 9, 2019 at his home in Ames.
Born on May 12, 1940, at the family home in Coulter, Iowa, Al was the son of John and Marie (Jensen) Kibsgaard. He attended Franklin Consolidated Schools and graduated from Latimer-Coulter High School in 1958. Al was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1963 and was honorably discharged in 1969. He was united in marriage to Carolyn Hunter at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa on June 19, 1965. Al worked for the State of Iowa, Department of Transportation as a truck driver and in the supply warehouse for 37 years. Al enjoyed woodworking and was a clockmaker when he was younger. He also enjoyed tending to the flower gardens in his yard and golfing, but especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Al was a regular at the coffee table in the mornings at the East HyVee. Al was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Ames American Legion.
Al is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carolyn; his son, Todd (Rhonda) Kibsgaard of Marion, Iowa; a granddaughter, Robyn (William) Raper of Mechanicsville, Iowa; a grandson, Jerrad Kibsgaard of Marion, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Fiona and Barrett Raper; a brother, Donald (Marsha) Kibsgaard; sisters: Helga (Gene) Bobst, Shirley (Donavon) Baker, and Beverly Bass; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Charlie Bass.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ames. Friends may call from 5-7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery with full military honors.
