OBITUARY

The closing of the life journey of Mrs. Thomas J. Williams, Monday, May 28, at the home of her son, came as a regretful surprise to her city acquaintances. Her critical illness was not recognized as such until near the time of her death, and then only by her home attendants. She and her husband took up their residence in Nevada in 1913, when they purchased the pleasant residence of Dr. and Mrs. Winsett, corner of First Avenue North and Chestnut street, and there made their home until the death of Mr. Williams, the 12th of last January. She continued to make it her own home until near the time of her illness she was taken to the home of her son, Dr. T. E. Williams, as noted above. Mrs. Williams had been a resident of Nevada only seven years, but during that brief time she had made many warm friends and won the esteem of all within the circle of her acquaintanceship. She was an active member of the Woman's Relief Corps and Eastern Star and a woman responsive to the calls of the community welfare.

Her maiden name was Esther J. Johnson, and she was born in Dodge county, Wis., September 18, 1850. On November 8th, 1869, she was married to Thomas J. Williams, at the home of John Seager of Gillman. Their heritage of children numbered five. Two sons died in infancy; two sons, Frank L. of Gillman, and Dr. T. E. of this city, and a daughter, Jennie E., of Des Moines, still survive. She is also survived by two brothers and two sisters. The two brothers are John L. Johnson, Firesteel, So. D., and Ira Johnson, Antioch, Nev.; and the two sisters are Florence L. Cannon, Salem, Ore., and Alice Jones, Fargo, N. D. Her church relations were the Church of God for many years. On coming to Nevada she made her church home with the Presbyterian society. Her age was nearly three score and ten. Brief funeral services were conducted by Rev. Mr. Walz at the home of Dr. Williams of this city, following which the body was taken to Gillman, Iowa, where a second service in the presence of old time friends was held in the Congregational church of that city, and sepulture made beside the grave of her husband.
