Kenneth E. Birkestrand, 75 of Huxley passed away on Monday, March 25, 2019 at The Bridges at Ankeny Care Center. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 30, 2019 at the Harvest Fellowship Assembly of God Church in Huxley, Iowa. Funeral service will follow the visitation at the church at 11:00 A.M. Burial will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday in the Canby Cemetery in rural Adair County, Iowa. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kenneth Birkestrand Memorial Fund. He was born in Des Moines, Iowa on December 3, 1943 to Clifford and Maxine (Mitchell) Birkestrand. Kenneth grew up in the Cambridge/Huxley area and graduated in May, 1963 from Ballard High School. Kenneth was married February 22, 1969 to Joyce Parsons of Casey, Iowa.

He worked at JC Penney’s Auto Parts and Scheman until his retirement. His enjoyments in life were antiques, attending the swap meet in Greenfield every year, garage sales, bowling and riding his scooter all around town.

Kenneth leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 50 years, Joyce Birkestrand of Huxley; brother, Gary (Wanda) Birkestrand of Slater; sister-in-law, Beverly Shike of Greenfield; two nephews; four nieces, his beloved dog, Sweety, all his adopted children and a host of friends that will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Maxine Birkestrand; father and mother-in-law, Richard and Mabel Parsons and brother-in-law Lewis Shike. (Professional Arrangements: Johnson Family Funeral Home & Crematory – Stuart).
