Shirley L. Woster
November 16, 1926 - April 1, 2019

Shirley Woster, 92, of McCallsburg, passed away surrounded by her loving family at Zearing Health Care Center in Zearing, Iowa on Monday, April 1, 2019. A visitation will be held from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg, Iowa. Her funeral will immediately follow the visitation and begin at 2:00 p.m., Kathy Sandmann will officiate. Burial will follow in the Warren Township Cemetery in McCallsburg.

Shirley was born in Milford Township on November 16, 1926 to Hiram and Gertie (Arneson) Twedt. She grew up in McCallsburg and met the love of her life Virgil Woster in 3rd grade. She graduated from McCallsburg High School in 1944. She then attended college at AIB in Des Moines. On August 31, 1947, once Virgil Woster came home from WWII, the couple married. They began farming together in 1948 in rural McCallsburg. Shirley raised their kids and then worked for various companies over the years as a secretary. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid, McCallsburg American Legion Auxiliary, and was a past leader of 4-H. Shirley loved to spend time with her family, help in the field, quilting, sewing, gardening, and collecting various treasures. Her family will always remember her good cooking and baked goodies.

Those left to cherish Shirley's loving memory are her children Kenton (Jennifer) Woster, of New Providence, Raylene (Harry) Fortney, of Kelley, and Valerie (Michal) Buns, of Iowa City; grandchildren, Travis (Jenny Simpson) Woster, Grant (Meg) Woster, Ryan (Missy) Fortney, Alissa (Bruno) Zugay, Andrew (Brenda) Buns, Seth (Nikki) Buns, Jonathan (Emily) Buns, Janaya Buns; great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Kaitlyn Zugay, and Sebastian Buns, Hutson and Avery Woster, and Trevor Simpson; sisters Olive Sampson, and Mary Ann Tjelmeland; brother Paul (Patty) Twedt; sisters-in-laws Elaine Twedt, Bev Twedt, Roberta Twedt, and Connie Woster; brothers-in-law Max Larson, and Paul Frandsen; many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Virgil; son Ragene; grandson Nicholas; great-grandson Ian; sisters Charlotte Frandsen and infant Charlotte; brothers Alvin "Bud", Harlan, and Darwin; brothers-in-law Askel Sampson, Wayne Tjelmeland, Carroll Woster, Gorden Woster, and Marion Woster; sisters-in-law Lois Larson, Edell Woster, and Bernetta Woster.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Bethany Lutheran Church or McCallsburg American Legion Auxilliary.

Fredregill Funeral Home, in Zearing, has been entrusted with the care of Shirley and her family.
