Shirley C. Wismer, 82, of Story City and formerly of McCallsburg, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Monday, March 25, 2019 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at Fredregill Funeral Home, in Zearing, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Zearing at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 29, 2019 with Father Rick Dagit officiating. Burial will follow in the Warren Township Cemetery in McCallsburg, Iowa.
Shirley was born in Marshalltown, Iowa on December 26, 1936 to Richard and Henrietta (Stalzer) Stackhouse. The family moved to a farm outside of McCallsburg where she attended and graduated from McCallsburg High School in 1954. She met Lavern "Bebe" Wismer in McCallsburg a few years later. The couple married on November 30, 1957 at the St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Zearing. They moved to Highland Park, Illinois due to Lavern's work. All Six of their children were born there. In 1974 they moved to McCallsburg. Shirley began working for Mary Greeley in 1977 and soon became the Birthways Head Housekeeper, which so enjoyed. After 27 years of dedicated service she retired in 2004. She was a member of St. Gabriel's Catholic Church and the McCallsburg American Legion Auxiliary. Shirley loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her sisters. She also enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening and working out with silver sneakers.
Those left to cherish her loving memory are her children Daniel Wismer of Jewell, IA, Connie (Kraig) Anderson of Story City, IA, Nancy (Mike) Jordan of Story City, IA, Mary Lou Wismer of Nevada, IA, Theresa (John) Cook of Story City, IA, and Deb (Gary Steel) Tarbill of Gilbert, IA; 17 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 6 step-great-grandchildren; sisters Erma Klug, and Dorothy Lesher; many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Lois Shea.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa.
Fredregill Funeral Home, in Zearing, has been entrusted with the care of Shirley and her family.
